The Last Kingdom is the best show I have seen in a long time. The Drama is said to be based on the novel written by Bernerd Cowell and the story line revolves around the main character Uhtred. Uhtred is a warrior, born to a Saxon ruler and raised by the Danes. In the wake of his destiny, he grapples between his oaths, dual identities and his quest for retribution towards injustice that he encountered. His spirit of loyalty often falls prey to the web of love and betrayal, and respect towards his family and brotherhood often ensnares him with difficult choices. The story weaves through the propitious schemes to rekindle his birth right and reclaim his ancestral home from his uncle who has greedily usurped the power of Bebbanburg. With the onset of journey, he lays the plot and spills the vengeance to avenge the murder of his adopted father. This has landed him in the Kingdom of Wessex under the reign of King Alfred who’s only aim was to unite the land as one nation (UK). In the wake of continuous threat from Danes invasion, King Alfred found Uhtred’s utility in faring his mission to thwart the external threats. At every turn of the story, his integrity towards King Alferd, Queen Aethelflaed, for his brother Ragnar and friend Brida gets tested several time as the strings of events unfolds under his eyes.
I adore Uhtred's performances; the way he depicts his part as a worrier is fantastic. Uhtred of Benbbenburg travels far from his homeland and meets numerous companions, but fate has a limited offer to him to be with all of them. However, Aethelflaed, the daughter of King Alferd, admires him and they frequently express their love for one other, but fate was hesitant to allow them tie their knot of love. Throughout the series, I was anxiously anticipating the time when Uhtred would reclaim his land from his uncle and live a life of caring husband to Queen Aethelflaed, but it has yet to come, much to my disappointment.
The announcement of Season 5 was the finest consolation for my dissatisfied spirit. I'm hoping that my thirst of wish will be quenched in the Final Season.
Destiny is all!
